I recently held a meeting with City of Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner and Olympic Gold Medallist Ed Clancy, as well as Living Streets and South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority to discuss how we can make our streets safer for pedestrians in Doncaster North.
Ed Clancy highlighted that road safety remains the biggest barrier to families choosing to walk, wheel or cycle. That’s why I’m encouraged by SYMCA and the Council’s plans to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and other road users throughout South Yorkshire.
One of the key projects discussed at the meeting was road safety improvements along the A638 in Woodlands. The Council’s proposals will go to public consultation next month, and I’ll share the link when it goes live on the website so you can have your say.
Representatives from Living Streets also attended and shared how successful the “WOW – The Walk to School Challenge” has been in reducing cars at the school gates, easing congestion, and bringing health benefits for children and families at schools throughout Doncaster North.

I’ll keep monitoring progress on road safety and active travel in our area and keep you updated.
