We owe a debt of gratitude to the mineworkers and their families who helped to power our country for so long.
They have had to campaign for decades for a fair pension, and last year we delivered on the Mineworkers’ Pension Scheme.
Today, I am glad we take the next step in delivering justice, by ending the scandal of the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme.
937 ex-mineworkers and their families in Doncaster North will receive an average £100 weekly uplift to their pensions thanks to the decision taken today by the Labour government.
