I recently met with representatives from Living Streets, a charity that promotes walking and campaigns for safer, more accessible streets.
We discussed their campaign called WOW, which encourages children to walk or cycle to school.
During our discussion, we talked about the barriers that can prevent children from walking or cycling to school, such as a lack of safe crossing points or issues with parked cars obstructing pavements.
In the new year, I plan to facilitate a meeting to bring together representatives from City of Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire’s Active Travel Commissioner, and Living Streets to explore how we can improve the environment for pedestrians, particularly around schools.
I’d like input from constituents about specific road safety issues they are experiencing in their local area so that I can bring these to the attention of those at the meeting.
If there are any specific road safety concerns at a school near you, such as the need for a School Crossing Patrol, problems with parking at drop-off and pick-up times, or any other ideas that could help make walking to school safer, I’d be grateful if you could share them with me by email at ed.miliband.mp@parliament.uk
Please also include your full name, address & postcode in the email, as well as the subject line ‘Road Safety Campaign”.
