I spoke at the Labour Party Conference about the serious challenges facing the country, but also about the progress we’ve already made, including ending the scandal of the Mineworkers Pension Scheme. That matters deeply to my constituents in Doncaster North, and it’s a reminder of what we can accomplish when we fight for fairness.
But we must be honest about the scale of the task ahead. For nearly 30 of the last 40 years, Britain has been shaped by two dominant Tory ideas. We’ve had Conservative governments that transferred wealth, power and income away from working class communities, which hollowed out our economy, weakened public services, and eroded trust in politics.
That’s the real story behind Britain’s condition today. It’s why I’ll keep working for Doncaster North and for the entire United Kingdom. We must repair the damage, restore hope, and build a future that works for everyone.
