Bentley Ings pumping station is an important flood defence in Doncaster North. The pumping station protects 1,670 properties from flooding by diverting water away from Toll Bar, Arksey and Bentley. On Wednesday, Ed visited the site to learn more about how the pumping station protects the area and also to see the works which are underway to improve the facility.
This is a major infrastructure project costing an estimated £11m. Site work commenced in autumn 2018 and will be completed by Spring 2020. The pumping station’s 80 year old pumps are being replaced and new infrastructure is being built to ensure that staff are able to safely access the site in flood conditions. The Environment Agency is keen to future-proof the flood defences so that they can cope with climate change in the future.
