Youngsters name wind farm turbines

Hampole_wind_turbines_3.jpgChildren at a Doncaster primary school are celebrating after winning a competition to name the turbines at a nearby wind farm.

Pupils from All Saints Primary, in Hooton Pagnell, submitted their suggestions to green energy company Good Energy – who own and operate Hampole wind farm.

Winning entries Windiana, Airy Fairy, Windaloo and Windy Wayne were selected after a vote on Good Energy’s Facebook page.

Ed, guest of honour at the event, said: “This is a real tribute to everyone in the community who has worked with Good Energy and supported the wind farm in Hampole over the last two years.

“The schoolchildren seemed to really enjoy visiting the site. It’s great that Good Energy has given them a since of what wind energy really means and why renewable projects are so important. Congratulations to everyone involved.”

The open day also saw the presentation of a grant for £16,400 from the community fund linked to the wind farm to local residents.

The first recipients to benefit from the community fund include St Michael & All Angels Church in Skelbrooke, which received £8,000 to upgrade its heating system.

Ruth Roche, church warden at St Michael’s, said: “We’re delighted by this news and very grateful for Good Energy’s support.

“We have struggled with our ancient boiler for years and suffered many church services and parish meetings with no heating. The upgrade will allow us to offer heated premises to not only the congregation but, for the first time, the entire community!”

Grants were also awarded to help improve facilities at Hooton Pagnell Youth Club; to repair the Hooton Pagenell church clock bells; and to a local Neighbourhood Watch group in Pickburn for a community flowerbed and bench.oolchildren to the site today.”
