Work on Doncaster station’s newest platform is on track, and Ed was given a behind the scenes tour.

He met with Network Rail workers at platform 0.

The new addition will be used for trains terminating in, or starting from, Doncaster and is located at the end of the station near to the Frenchgate Centre.

Ed said the £21million project, due for completion in May, was a welcome boost for the town.

He said: “It’s fantastic to see this kind of investment at our railway station. It will help make services more reliable for passengers, and increase capacity.

“Doncaster is not only an important railway centre, with a great deal of jobs tied into the industry, it is a major transport hub with thousands of passengers passing through it every day.”

The Doncaster North MP was also given access to the Power Signal Box.

It controls all trains operating between Peterborough and York as well as level crossings across the borough.

He added: “It was fantastic to meet some of Network Rail’s dedicated staff and get an insight into the work they do to keep our trains running.”
