School support group named

EM_and_MAD_group_200117.jpgEd met parents who have formed a support group in their school.

He visited Highwoods Primary, in Mexborough, to hear about “M.A.D.” – the Mums and Dads group.

They banded together, with support from the school's teachers and staff, to form a special group to raise cash for the school and its pupils.

Now they meet every week to come up with plans to help Highwoods and the children who attend.

Members also organise events like raffles and discos as well as supporting other parents.

Ed was also given a tour of the school and talked to the parents.

He said: “These parents are doing an excellent job in helping to create the best possible school for their children.

“They are enthusiastic, supportive, full of ideas and determined to give all the children at the school the best possible start. I was really impressed by all they have achieved.”

School head-teacher Graham Rhodes said: "The MAD group have done a tremendous job in supporting other parents and helping to make our school to be a success, and we're pleased Mr Miliband was able to meet them and hear about their work."

Members of the group pictured with Ed are Kerry Skelton, Jenny Clarke, Rachel Harrison, David Goodyear, Lorna Gething, Gemma Hawley, Claire Botwood.
